Freefly VR Beyond
The Freefly beyond is the successor of the Original Freefly released back in January 2015. Since then it’s come a little bit further with new updated lenes and new triggers that make the headset compatible with iPhones.
On a simple side by side comparison you may not realize that much has changed with this headset, however you will be able to notice that the large 120 degree field of view lens have a anti fog coating.
The soft foam padding has extra breathable padding that combined with the adjustable head straps is both comfortable and easy to wear.
This headset, like most other VR headsets is designed only to be used for short periods of time and will of course be able to accept most phones including ones on the IOS platform. Dual Triggers are positioned on the underside of the headset that allow for a different playstyle too.
Locking your phone securely into place is made easy with the spring action “wing like” plates that push inwards whilst automatically making your phone center aligned.
As with all cardboard type headsets you won't be able to experience PC like games nor will you be able to access the Oculus store (without a bit of modification). However there are plenty of apps and videos to explore online and through the play store.
You will find that the Freefly Beyond is slightly larger than other headsets with it’s signature wing like approach to securing the phone. There is no IPD or focal distance adjustment, but the front panel can be adjusted from side to side, along with plenty of adjustability for different size heads.
Depending on the your phone's size, this headset will automatically adjust to it’s thickness and can take phones with screens between 4.7 - 6.1 inches. When it comes to removing your phone, it’s as easy to do so at the click of a button.
